Downtown Winnipeg will experience significant traffic disruptions this weekend. This is due to the Grey Cup festivities and the annual Santa Claus Parade. Street closures have already begun and are set to affect several key areas.
Street Closures for Grey Cup Festivities and Santa Parade
The City of Winnipeg has announced a series of road closures to facilitate these events. Here are the details:
- York Avenue: Closed to eastbound traffic between Edmonton and Carlton streets until 9 a.m. on Sunday.
- Young Street: Closed between Portage and Ellice avenues until 9 a.m. on Sunday.
- Spence Street: Closed between Portage and Ellice until 8 a.m. on Monday.
- Portage Avenue:
- Closed in both directions from St. Mary Avenue to Main Street on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Limited access for northbound and southbound cross streets.
- Main Street:
- Closed southbound between McDermot Avenue and York.
- Short closure northbound from William Stephenson Way to Portage during late afternoon.
- Other closures:
- Portage Avenue East between Westbrook Street and Main.
- Westbound St. Mary from Edmonton to Memorial Boulevard.
- Eastbound York from Colony Street to Memorial.
- Osborne Street North/Memorial/Colony from Broadway to Ellice.
Parking and Access Restrictions
Parking lot access will be restricted in several areas until 10 p.m. on Saturday. The following streets will have no through traffic:

- Garry Street (Ellice to Portage)
- Smith Street (St. Mary to Portage)
- Donald Street (Ellice to Portage)
- Hargrave Street (St. Mary to Portage)
- Carlton (Ellice to Portage)
- Edmonton (St. Mary to Portage)
- Kennedy Street (Portage to Graham)
- Vaughan Street (Portage to Graham)
