Bay Area Cold Weather Shelters Open as Temperatures Plunge

As cold weather sweeps across the Bay Area, several counties are activating cold weather shelters to assist residents. A Freeze Warning is currently in effect, indicating significant temperature drops overnight. Residents can expect lows ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s in some areas.

Cold Weather Shelters by County

Citrus County

  • Location: 5113 South Suncoast Boulevard, Homosassa, FL 34446
  • Operation Hours: November 10 and 11, 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Hernando County

  • Location: Brooksville Enrichment Center, 800 John Gary Grubbs Boulevard, Brooksville, FL 34601
  • Operation Hours: November 10, 8 p.m. to November 11, 8 a.m.

Pasco County

  • Locations:
    • Shady Hills Mission Chapel, 15925 Greenglen Lane, Spring Hill, FL
    • First Nazarene Church of Zephyrhills, 6151 12th Street, Zephyrhills, FL
  • Operation Hours: November 10 and 11, 6 p.m. to 10 a.m. the following day

Polk County

  • Location: Talbot House Ministries, Lakeland
  • Operation Hours: Open 24/7 starting November 10
  • Public Support: Donations are being accepted for food, clothing, and financial contributions via TalbotHouse.org.

Pinellas County

  • Locations:
    • First United Methodist Church of Clearwater, 411 Turner St, Clearwater, FL
    • First United Methodist Church of Pinellas Park, 9025 49th St N, Pinellas Park, FL
    • Unitarian Universalist Church, 100 Mirror Lake Dr N, St. Petersburg, FL
    • Salvation Army, 310 14th Ave S, St. Petersburg, FL
    • Boys & Girls Club of Tarpon Springs, 111 W Lime St, Tarpon Springs, FL
  • Operation Hours: November 10 and 11, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Hillsborough County

  • Locations:

    • Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St., Tampa, FL
    • Tampa Bay Mission of Hope, 110 Parsons Blvd, Brandon, FL
    • Amazing Love Ministries, 3304 E. Columbus Dr., Tampa, FL
    • Greater New Hope Church Anointed Ministries, 2104 Mud Lake Rd., Plant City, FL

  • Operation Hours: Activating for November 10 and 11 nights

Manatee County

  • Location: Salvation Army, 1204 14th Street West
  • Intake Hours: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. (or until capacity is reached)
  • Shelter Duration: Seven free nights for residents, three nights for non-residents (ID required)
  • Fees: $15 per night after initial free nights
  • Transportation: Provided by MCAT from designated locations starting at 5 p.m.

During this period of extreme cold, these shelters offer a much-needed refuge for those without adequate heating. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of these services as conditions may worsen.
