Icy Snow and Rain Leave Over 54,000 Homes Without Power

Weather conditions in Quebec have led to significant power outages this week. As of Monday evening, over 54,000 homes are without electricity due to a combination of snow and freezing rain. The first major snowfall of the season began over the weekend and has transitioned into mixed precipitation.
Icy Snow and Rain Impact Power Supply
As reported by Hydro-Québec, the outage count reached 54,273 by Monday at 9:20 PM. Montreal was the hardest hit, with 28,383 homes lacking power. Other affected areas include:
- Montérégie: 10,814 outages
- Laval: 8,280 outages
- Lanaudière: 4,430 outages
- Laurentides: 1,991 outages
Additional Regions Affected
Homes across Estrie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Mauricie, Bas-Saint-Laurent, and Côte-Nord are also experiencing outages, though at a smaller scale. In Montreal, Environment Canada forecasts an additional snowfall of up to 5 cm overnight, with 2 cm expected on Tuesday.
Snowfall Warnings and Weather Forecast
Various regions, including La Tuque, Parc des Laurentides, and Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean, are under snow warnings from Environment Canada. An accumulation of 15 to 20 cm of snow is anticipated in these areas. Additionally, freezing rain of approximately 2 mm is expected in the Parc des Laurentides.
