Marc Guehi, Nick Pope, Anthony Gordon to Miss England Matches Due to Injuries

Marc Guehi, Nick Pope, and Anthony Gordon will miss England’s last two World Cup qualifying matches due to injuries. The trio’s absence is a setback for the national team as they prepare for their upcoming games.

Injuries to Key Players

Defender Marc Guehi sustained a serious foot injury during Crystal Palace’s recent victory in the Conference League. His condition has left him unable to walk, as confirmed by manager Oliver Glasner. Guehi suffered a heavy bone bruise, which occurred at the end of the 3-1 win over AZ Alkmaar. He received a yellow card for a foul during that match.

Glasner explained the severity of Guehi’s injury, stating, “Overnight he couldn’t sleep; it was so painful. The next day, we assessed him, and fortunately, nothing is broken.” However, Guehi was seen using crutches and unable to place weight on his injured foot. Recovery may take about 10 to 14 days.

Other Injured Players

  • Nick Pope: The Newcastle goalkeeper suffered a concussion during the 3-1 defeat against Brentford. Manager Eddie Howe confirmed Pope’s condition, noting he had to be withdrawn from the match.
  • Anthony Gordon: The winger missed the same match due to a hip injury and will also be unavailable for England.

Upcoming Matches

England has already secured their place in next year’s World Cup. They will compete against Serbia at Wembley on Thursday, followed by a match against Albania in Tirana next Sunday. The absence of Guehi, Pope, and Gordon presents challenges for the squad.

England’s players are scheduled to report for training on Monday as they gear up for these important fixtures.
