Alert Issued: High Tides Threaten Gloucestershire with Flood Risk

Residents of Gloucestershire have been alerted to the possibility of flooding due to high tides on the River Wye. The flood risk is particularly relevant for the areas extending from Coleford in the Forest of Dean to Chepstow in Wales. The Environment Agency has issued a Flood Alert indicating that residents should prepare for potential flooding.
Flooding Forecast for Gloucestershire’s River Wye
The flooding is expected to occur late Friday night, November 7, and continuing into the morning of Saturday, November 8. Flooding concerns will begin at around 8 PM on Friday and carry over to 8 AM on Saturday.
Predicted Tide Levels
According to the Environment Agency, the expected tidal peaks are as follows:
- Avonmouth Portbury:
- Friday: 7.4m to 7.7m
- Saturday: 7.3m to 7.6m
- Newport:
- Friday: 6.9m to 7.2m
- Saturday: 6.8m to 7.1m
The agency cautions that flooding may impact low-lying land and roads adjacent to the Wye Estuary, particularly from Redbrook to Chepstow. Residents are advised to avoid walking, cycling, or driving through any flood water.
Weather Outlook
The Met Office has forecasted periods of heavy rain in the Forest of Dean on Friday, continuing until about 6 PM, followed by light rain until 8 PM. However, Saturday promises to be drier with sunny spells, although light rain is expected again on Sunday.

- Friday: Maximum of 15 °C, mild with rain transitioning to clearer conditions overnight.
- Saturday: A maximum of 14 °C, generally sunny and pleasant with light winds.
- Sunday: Clear at first, but rain anticipated later in the day.
