Giants Confident Darius Slayton Will Revive Troubled Season

The Giants are currently facing significant challenges, particularly regarding the performance of wide receiver Darius Slayton. Despite securing a three-year contract worth $36 million last March, Slayton is struggling in his seventh season with the team. Drafted in the fifth round of the 2019 draft, he is the longest-tenured offensive player on the roster.

Darius Slayton’s Struggles This Season

So far, Slayton has recorded only 19 catches for 254 yards without scoring a touchdown. His difficulties have been highlighted by a costly fumble in a loss to New Orleans and an important dropped pass in a game against the 49ers. The absence of teammate Malik Nabers, who suffered a torn ACL, has intensified the pressure on Slayton to step up.

Support from Coaching Staff

Despite these challenges, offensive coordinator Mike Kafka remains confident in Slayton’s abilities. “I have a ton of confidence in Slay and all the stuff that he does in the pass game, in the run game,” Kafka stated, emphasizing Slayton’s leadership and skill in the meeting rooms. Kafka expressed optimism about the remaining games in the season.

Upcoming Game Conditions

The upcoming matchup against the Bears presents additional challenges. The weather forecast predicts a low of 26 degrees and a high of 36 degrees, accompanied by snow showers and winds reaching 35 mph. This will likely be the Giants’ first game affected by severe weather conditions this season.

Player Adaptability to Adverse Weather

Quarterback Jaxson Dart, who is prepared for the harsh conditions, noted his experience playing in snow during high school in Utah. “The weather has never been something that’s bothered me,” Dart said, indicating his readiness to adapt to the forecasted conditions.

Roster Adjustments for the Game

The Giants have made crucial roster changes ahead of the game. Younghoe Koo and receiver Ray-Ray McCloud have been elevated from the practice squad. Koo, who will make his debut for the Giants in place of Graham Gano, has an impressive field goal success rate of 85.8 percent. Previously with the Falcons, Koo was released earlier this season.

  • Injuries Impact: LB Darius Muasau and WR Beaux Collins have been placed on injured reserve, sidelining them for the next four games.
  • Roster Additions: LBs Tomon Fox and Zaire Barnes have been signed to the active roster.
  • Cornerback Return: Cor’Dale Flott returns after missing one game due to a concussion, while Paulson Adebo continues to be sidelined with a knee injury.

As the Giants prepare to face the Bears, all eyes will be on Darius Slayton. The team hopes he can find his rhythm and help revitalize what has been a difficult season thus far.
