Amazon FTC Settlement: Prime Members Can Claim $1.5 Billion Compensation

Amazon is facing scrutiny for its subscription practices. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed a complaint in June, accusing the company of misleading customers into signing up for Amazon Prime. According to the FTC, the cancellation process for the service was made excessively complicated.

Amazon’s $1.5 Billion Settlement for Prime Members

As part of the resolution, Amazon has agreed to a total settlement of $2.5 billion. This amount includes $1 billion designated for fines and penalties to the government. The remaining $1.5 billion will be returned to consumers affected by the subscription issues.

Eligibility for Compensation

Amazon Prime customers who registered between 2019 and 2025 may qualify for compensation. Those eligible can receive settlement payments of up to $51. This initiative aims to address complaints about unintentionally signing up for the service.
