André Tourigny, the head coach of the Utah Mammoth, took center stage at a recent press conference in Montreal. He shared his thoughts on the significance of playing against the Montreal Canadiens, particularly at the iconic Bell Centre.

Tourigny highlighted that the experience of facing the Canadiens is always special for him. His roots in Quebec contribute to his enthusiasm. He jokingly remarked that as a former Nordiques player, matches should take place in Quebec City.
He expressed that playing in such a prominent arena has personal meaning. “My son, daughter, and wife will be here. Friends from Rouyn have come down, and it’s definitely special to play at home,” he stated.

Tourigny recognizes the deep connection fans in Quebec have with the Canadiens. He noted, “Quebecers are passionate. Whether I’m in a boat, on a bike, or walking in summer, people talk about the Canadiens.”
He added, “It’s important to savor every visit to the Bell Centre, especially during a Saturday night game with the electric atmosphere.”
Regional Connections and Personal Pride
The matchup holds regional significance for Tourigny. He grew up in Nicolet, and the Canadiens’ starting goalie, Samuel Montembeault, is from Bécancour, which is only 20 minutes away. Additionally, Zachary Bolduc hails from Trois-Rivières, just across the river.

Tourigny expressed his connection to his hometown, stating, “I may live over 3,700 kilometers from Nicolet, but my roots are always close.” He takes pride in his Quebec identity, saying, “I’m proud to be Canadian and proud to be Québécois.”
He emphasized that while he represents Salt Lake City and Utah, he will never forget where he came from, highlighting the importance of maintaining ties to one’s heritage. “My future will always be by the Nicolet River, that’s for sure,” he affirmed.
