Hall of Fame Inductees 2025: Thornton and Others Share Influences at Ceremony

In a memorable ceremony, seven talented athletes were inducted into the Hall of Fame, each sharing their unique influences and experiences. The event took place in November, a moment they had eagerly awaited since receiving the official call in June about their election.
Highlights from the Ceremony
Among the inductees was Jerry Parker, an esteemed former coach at Boston University, who humorously remarked about his age. “November? Do they know how old you are?” he recalled a friend’s reaction when he mentioned the ceremony’s timing.
Another notable inductee, Duncan Keith, a three-time Stanley Cup champion with the Chicago Blackhawks, reflected on his draft day. “Bad scouts,” he quipped about being selected as the No. 54 pick in the 2002 NHL Draft.
Joe Thornton’s Impact
Joe Thornton, perhaps the highlight of the day, expressed his joy in mentoring younger players. He proudly spoke about his role in guiding Auston Matthews during his tenure with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Currently, he is also mentoring Connor Bedard, the first overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, who is living with Thornton and his family.
- Bedard is currently leading the NHL with 23 points (nine goals and 14 assists).
- Thornton enjoys sharing his passion for hockey with these emerging talents.
A Special Tribute
In addition to the Hall of Fame events, Thornton made a special trip to his hometown of St. Thomas, Ontario. He participated in the Joe Thornton Tribute Game at the Joe Thornton Community Centre. The game featured the St. Thomas Stars, a team from the Greater Ontario Hockey League.
The Stars, coached by former NHL player Jason Williams, wore throwback jerseys reminiscent of the mid-1990s, when Thornton played for the local team. Williams praised Thornton’s contributions to hockey, stating, “He’s done so much for the game of hockey and had such an amazing career.”
Thornton’s enduring influence on the sport is evident through his continued engagement with the hockey community, showcasing his commitment well beyond his playing career.
