Henry Rejoins West Indies ODIs; Tickner Keeps His Place

New Zealand’s cricket team gears up for the ODI series against the West Indies with important updates regarding player selections. Matt Henry, who missed the final two ODIs against England due to a calf injury, is set to return. He has been involved in a planned rehabilitation program aimed at enhancing his fitness for upcoming matches.

Henry’s presence is vital for the team, especially as they prepare for a busy schedule that includes both ODIs and Tests in December. New Zealand head coach Rob Walter expressed confidence in Henry’s readiness, stating, “He will be fresh and fit after a good rest, and we know he will be raring to go ahead of what promises to be a big five weeks.”

Blair Tickner Retains His Place

Blair Tickner also maintains his position in the squad despite the return of Kyle Jamieson. Tickner stepped in for Jamieson during the England series and performed admirably, taking eight wickets across two matches. Walter praised Tickner’s contributions, highlighting the importance of rewarding players who excel when given the opportunity.

Squad Composition

The pace bowling lineup for the ODIs includes Henry, Tickner, Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes, and Nathan Smith. Spin duties will be managed by captain Mitchell Santner, Michael Bracewell, and Rachin Ravindra.

Injury Updates

Several players remain unavailable due to injuries, including:

  • Mohammad Abbas (ribs)
  • Finn Allen (foot)
  • Lockie Ferguson (hamstring)
  • Adam Milne (ankle)
  • Will O’Rourke (back)
  • Glenn Phillips (groin)
  • Ben Sears (hamstring)

Kane Williamson continues his recovery from a groin injury and will not participate in the ODI series, focusing instead on the Test series starting December 2.

Looking Ahead

New Zealand’s upcoming clash with the West Indies is notable for its potential challenges. Walter acknowledged the unpredictability of the West Indies: “They’re always a dangerous side, with players who can turn a game in an instant.”

The New Zealand squad is scheduled to assemble in Christchurch on November 14. They aim to extend their impressive streak of ten consecutive home ODI series victories, following a clean sweep over England last month. The current five-match T20I series against the West Indies stands tied at 1-1 after two matches.
