Penn State Sophomore Removed from Roster Following Coaching Change

Penn State University is facing significant changes following a recent coaching shift. As a result, the program could see numerous transfers before the current season concludes.

Penn State’s Coaching Changes Impact Roster

The first notable departure from the Nittany Lions roster is redshirt sophomore tight end Joey Schlaffer. Originally from Exeter Township, Pennsylvania, Schlaffer did not accompany the team for their recent game against Ohio State.

During his time at Penn State, Schlaffer was part of a competitive tight end group that included players such as Theo Johnson, Tyler Warren, and Khalil Dinkins. Despite being a four-star recruit, he struggled for consistent playing time.

Performance and Opportunities

In total, Schlaffer participated in four games during the 2024 season and three in 2025. His most significant contribution came this year when he caught a 19-yard touchdown pass against Villanova, marking his only career reception.

As Penn State prepares for a matchup against Indiana, the team is presently favored by 15 points, according to Caesars Sportsbook.

This transition period at Penn State underscores the challenges that often accompany coaching changes. The program is likely to experience further departures as student-athletes evaluate their options amid the uncertainty.
