Afua Kyei, Ian Wright, Dame Pat McGrath Top Powerlist 2026 Honoring Black Innovators

Afua Kyei, the Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director at the Bank of England, has been awarded the title of the UK’s most influential Black person in the Powerlist 2026. This honor comes as part of a celebration marking the 20th anniversary of the Powerlist, which recognizes significant contributions from individuals of African, African Caribbean, and African American heritage.

Highlights from Powerlist 2026

This year’s Powerlist features notable names, including:

  • Ian Wright – Former England and Arsenal footballer, now a broadcaster, who ranked second.
  • Dame Pat McGrath – Renowned makeup artist and founder of Pat McGrath Labs, taking third place.

Afua Kyei’s Vision and Impact

Kyei expressed her gratitude for being recognized, emphasizing the importance of representation and visibility for young people. She stated that when individuals see themselves in diverse roles, it inspires them to pursue their aspirations. Kyei’s leadership at the Bank of England involves managing a £1 trillion balance sheet and championing diversity and climate initiatives.

Powerlist Celebration of Black Excellence

The awards ceremony took place at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House in London, co-hosted by broadcaster Jeanette Kwakye MBE and entrepreneur Tim Campbell MBE. Other influential figures in the top ten include:

  • Steven Bartlett – Entrepreneur and investor on Dragon’s Den
  • Idris Elba OBE – Actor and philanthropist
  • Emma Grede – CEO of Good American and founding partner of SKIMS
  • Ije Nwokorie – Chief Executive Officer, Dr Martens

This year’s Powerlist was created in partnership with J.P. Morgan, HSBC, and Gold Sponsor PwC. New entrants on the list include actress Cynthia Erivo and stylist Melissa Holdbrook-Akposoe, both of whom are recognized for their significant contributions in their respective fields.

A Legacy of Inspiration

Since its inception in 2006 by Powerful Media Ltd, the Powerlist has highlighted the achievements of Black leaders and innovators, showcasing their impact on society. Over the years, prominent figures such as Sir Lewis Hamilton and Edward Enninful OBE have also been recognized.
