Iowa Basketball Star Overlooked in ESPN’s Top 25 Player Rankings

The countdown to the 2025-26 women’s college basketball season is underway, with the opening tip scheduled for next week. On this occasion, ESPN has released its anticipated list of the top 25 players in the nation. However, one standout from Iowa is notably missing from the rankings.

Iowa Basketball Star Overlooked in ESPN’s Top 25 Player Rankings

Senior forward Hannah Stuelke has been left off ESPN’s prestigious list. Stuelke, who hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has established herself as a pivotal force on the court. As Iowa’s leading scorer and rebounder, she averaged 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game during the past season.

A Key Player for Iowa

  • Position: Forward
  • Average Points Per Game: 12.7
  • Average Rebounds Per Game: 7.7
  • Games Played: 32
  • Preseason Honors: All-Big Ten first-team

Entering her final year with the team, Stuelke is recognized for her leadership skills. She is expected to play a crucial role in guiding younger players as they integrate into the program. Her omission from the ESPN rankings may serve as added motivation for Stuelke, who is determined to showcase her abilities this season.

Other Notable Players in Rankings

Four players from the Big Ten have made the ESPN list:

  • Lauren Betts (UCLA) – No. 2
  • Gianna Kneepkens (UCLA) – No. 14
  • Kiki Rice (UCLA) – No. 17
  • Yarden Garzon (Maryland) – No. 20

Iowa’s season kicks off with an exhibition game against Ashland on October 30 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The team will then officially begin its campaign against the Southern Jaguars on November 3, also at 6:30 p.m. CT. Both matches are set to take place at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and will be available for streaming on Big Ten Plus.
