Russian authorities have launched an investigation into the suspected murder of a couple from St. Petersburg in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The couple, Roman Novak and his wife Anna, went missing earlier in October, sparking concern among their relatives when they failed to make contact for several days.

Roman and Anna Novak, who resided in Dubai, were last seen on October 2. Their driver reported dropping them off near a lake in Hatta, close to the Oman border, for what was supposedly an investment meeting. They inexplicably transferred to another vehicle and were not seen again.

The Russian Investigative Committee, which handles major crimes, has opened a criminal case into the couple’s disappearance. Initial reports indicate that the couple may have been kidnapped and killed after a ransom demand was made. According to sources from the St. Petersburg news outlet Fontanka, eight Russian nationals are now suspected of involvement in this heinous act.

Novak established Fintopio, a platform promising rapid crypto transfers, and attracted a diverse range of investors from Russia, China, and the Middle East.
In November 2020, he was sentenced to six years in prison for fraud related to investment and cryptocurrency schemes. After his release in 2023, he continued to seek investment for new projects.
