Honda Recalls Over 400,000 Vehicles: Check Affected Models Here

Honda has recently issued a recall affecting over 400,000 vehicles due to a significant safety concern related to their 18-inch alloy wheels. The recall was announced on October 31 and involves 406,290 units. According to Honda, the issue could lead to the wheels detaching from the car, increasing the risk of accidents.

Details of the Honda Recall

Affected Models

  • 2016 Honda Civic
  • 2017 Honda Civic
  • 2018 Honda Civic
  • 2019 Honda Civic
  • 2020 Honda Civic
  • 2021 Honda Civic

Nature of the Issue

The problem arises from improperly installed steel lug seat inserts on the aluminum wheels. Honda identified that these inserts were not adequately pressed into place during manufacturing. As a result, the wheel nut can loosen, leading to possible detachment while driving.

Investigation Findings

The company learned of the defect in July 2024, following a report from the Japanese market about missing lug seat inserts during a vehicle inspection. Subsequent investigations revealed that although the U.S. inventory appeared unaffected, the underlying issue persisted. The supplier’s factory in Italy had mistakenly placed unfinished products in the finished goods area, bypassing several quality checks.

Steps for Affected Owners

If you own a Honda Civic that may be affected, Honda will reach out to owners with instructions to visit authorized dealers. The dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the wheels and any damaged hubs as necessary. Notification of this recall to vehicle owners is expected to commence around December 8.

Recall Information

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued recall number 25E071, while Honda’s recall number is MMZ. Vehicle owners can check their car’s recall status through the NHTSA recall database or contact Honda directly for assistance.
