Ouagadougou Impounds 60 Trucks for Violating Rush Hour Restrictions

The municipal police of Ouagadougou recently executed a significant operation to enforce heavy vehicle traffic restrictions during peak hours. This initiative, overseen by the Directorate of Coordination and Security of Neighborhoods (DCSA), aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance safety within the city.

As part of this campaign, local authorities demonstrated their commitment to strictly enforcing regulations regarding heavy vehicle operations in urban areas. The enforcement aligns with Municipal Order No. 2019-88, which establishes specific hours for heavy trucks based on their weight.
Traffic Restrictions for Heavy Vehicles
The regulations specify that vehicles with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) between 3.5 and 10 tons are permitted to operate during the following hours:
- 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM
- 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM
- 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM
Heavier vehicles exceeding 10 tons face even stricter limits, allowed only during:
- 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM
Additionally, wood transport vehicles are permitted exclusively at night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. The municipal police urge all truck drivers to adhere to these rules carefully to avoid penalties and help maintain smoother traffic flow in the capital.
