“I Discovered My True Talent”

In a recent semifinal, judges selected four acts, including Francesco Vignone and Juliette Boulanger. The group East2west, as well as the duo Adeline and JR Maddripp, also made the cut. Monday night’s episode on Noovo resonated deeply with Isabelle Déry, who recalled the “sound issues” she faced back in August.
Déry, a mother of four, expressed that her primary goal in participating was to gain exposure as a singer on television. In an interview, she stated, “When I filled out the application questionnaire, my aim was mainly to be seen, to be recognized as a singer, even just once.” She described the experience as stressful yet eye-opening.
Challenges Faced by Isabelle Déry
Déry faced constraints due to copyright issues and a lack of support from decision-makers, leaving her to perform “Parle-moi” by Isabelle Boulay in the semifinal. Early feedback from the judges indicated a looming end to her journey. Judge Serge Denoncourt expressed a desire for surprise, while Marie-Mai suggested improvements in note execution.
However, not all feedback was harsh. Judge Rachid Badouri highlighted that Déry’s journey could inspire others, and Anne Dorval praised her growing confidence as a singer. Reflecting on the experience, Déry shared, “It proved to me that I have true talent. I can evoke emotions in an audience I don’t know.” Her rendition of “Ordinaire” had the crowd on their feet, making for a memorable performance.
Unexpected Momentum
Following the episode, Déry dedicated approximately fifteen hours to engaging with fans online, suggesting a surge in interest that could elevate her career. Until now, she had primarily performed at weddings and private events. At age 51, Déry feels her moment may have finally arrived, particularly as she seeks to pivot professionally.
Meanwhile, Amélie Provost also made headlines by successfully navigating the “last note” stage of the new show, Piano public. Competing against twelve others, each had 45 seconds to impress the judges. News of contestant Andy Rubal’s exit accompanied her triumph, and Vithou Thurber-Prom Tep was lucky enough to be selected as a replacement.
Provost ultimately stood out in her performance with “Mr. Carpentier,” captivating the judges with her unique storytelling approach. As the competition heats up for the semifinals, viewers can look forward to the upcoming round, starting Saturday with “The Dedication Challenge.”
