Supermoon of the Year: Bright Beaver Moon Shines This Week

The Beaver Moon, known as the brightest full moon of the year, will reach its peak this Wednesday. This celestial event will be visible in the skies over Quebec. It marks the second of three consecutive supermoons occurring this year.
Understanding the Beaver Moon
This phenomenon occurs when the full moon aligns closely with its perigee, the point in its orbit nearest to Earth. As a result, the moon appears larger and brighter than usual.
Origin of the Name
The term “Beaver Moon” has various interpretations. According to Sky News:
- Some believe it refers to the historical setting of beaver traps by Indigenous peoples in November.
- Others suggest it relates to beavers preparing for winter by building dams during this month.
When to Observe the Beaver Moon
The Beaver Moon will appear largest in the sky at 8:19 AM this Wednesday. Although some cloud cover is expected overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday in Montreal, conditions should still permit glimpses of the moon.
Upcoming Celestial Events
The next supermoon is scheduled for December 4. Observers can look forward to another spectacular view of this astronomical event.
