Breaking: Bogotá Metro Cars Involved in Accident in China

Recently, a critical incident occurred involving Bogotá Metro cars during their transportation from Changchun to Qingdao, China. The fourth train’s cars were involved in a traffic accident on October 30, around 12:20 PM local time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the collision between two vehicles.
Details of the Bogotá Metro Incident
The Empresa Metro de Bogotá (EMB) confirmed that three out of the six wagons sustained damage, prompting their return to the factory in Changchun. Metro Línea 1 (ML1), the contractor responsible for the train’s logistics, stated that all cars would be transported back for a thorough diagnosis of their condition.
Response to the Situation
- ML1 has instructed the contractor to create a contingency plan to mitigate the situation’s impact.
- Both EMB and ML1 are actively working to manage the repercussions of this incident.
- Measures are in place to ensure compliance with contractual obligations despite the setback.
Delivery Schedule Remains on Track
Despite this unfortunate event, ML1 assured that the incident would not affect the maritime transport of the fifth train, scheduled for delivery on November 21. This ongoing commitment reflects the project’s goal to have four trains operational in Colombia by the end of the year.
History and Plans for the Bogotá Metro
The first train arrived in Bogotá on September 11, while the second followed on October 18. Both trains are currently undergoing static testing at the Bosa workshop. The full operation of Line 1 is expected to commence in March 2028, with an initial fleet of 30 trains capable of transporting up to 1,800 passengers each.
According to the timeline, all wagons should be in the capital by September 2027, leading up to operational readiness. The public eagerly anticipates the commencement of services, further improving urban mobility in Bogotá.
