In a thrilling finish at the New York Marathon, Benson Kipruto emerged victorious, narrowly defeating Alexander Mutiso. This exciting event showcased both seasoned athletes and newcomers alike.
Benson Kipruto Triumphs in New York Marathon
The men’s race featured a remarkable performance by Kipruto. He completed the marathon with an impressive time of 2:08:09, a photo finish that secured his first-place glory. Mutiso followed closely behind, finishing at the same time but ranking second based on the photo finish. Albert Korir, another Kenyan runner, claimed third place in 2:08:57.
Patrick Dever’s Impressive Debut
- Patrick Dever from Great Britain finished fourth in his marathon debut.
- His time was 2:08:58, placing him among elite competitors.
- Dever was part of a four-man lead group until Kipruto and Mutiso broke away in the final stages.
The race also marked a significant moment for Eliud Kipchoge, who finished in 17th place with a time of 2:14:36. Many believe this could be his last elite marathon.
Women’s Race and Record-Breaking Performance
Kiputo was not the only standout on the day. Hellen Obiri delivered a stunning performance, winning the women’s race and setting a new course record at 2:19:51. She surpassed the previous record of 2:22:31 set by Margaret Okayo in 2003.

The wheelchair races also showcased remarkable talent. In the men’s category, Marcel Hug from Switzerland secured first place with a time of 1:30:16. Great Britain’s David Weir finished second in 1:34:09.
