Bears’ D’Andre Swift Out for Bengals Matchup

Bears running back D’Andre Swift will not play in the upcoming game against the Bengals due to a persistent groin injury. This marks a significant moment for Swift, as he has never missed a game since joining the Bears.
D’Andre Swift’s Injury Status
Swift did not participate in practice throughout the week. He experienced pain during the Bears’ recent victory against the Commanders. Coach Ben Johnson acknowledged Swift’s determination to play but emphasized the team’s need to protect him.
“He’s a tough guy. He wants to be out there competing and helping his teammates,” Johnson stated. He added that balancing Swift’s desire to contribute with the need for recovery is crucial. Swift’s current condition suggests he is not performing at his usual capability, being only around 80-85% fit.
Replacement and Team Updates
Rookie Kyle Monangai will start in Swift’s position. Monangai, selected in the seventh round from Rutgers, has recorded 42 carries for 186 yards this season. Recently, he has shown improvement, rushing 20 times for 105 yards over the last two games.
Additional Team Absences
Alongside Swift, several other players will also be sidelined:
- Luther Burden (receiver) – concussion
- Roschon Johnson (running back) – back injury
- Dominique Robinson (defensive end) – ankle injury
In positive news for the Bears, tight end Cole Kmet and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson are available to play, having recovered from their respective injuries.
The Bears’ coaching staff is optimistic that Swift’s time away from the field will result in better performance in the upcoming games this season.
