Nationwide Customers Receive £200 Payments Overnight

Many customers of Nationwide Building Society have recently received substantial cash payments. The bank has issued £200 payments to millions of its account holders, attracting a significant number of new members.
Nationwide’s Customer Growth
In just a few months, Nationwide gained over 54,000 new customers between July and September. This influx is largely attributed to its enticing £200 switch incentive aimed at attracting customers from other banks.
Competitive Landscape
Other banks are also vying for market share. Co-op Bank welcomed nearly 10,000 new customers thanks to their £175 offer. Both Monzo and HSBC attracted over 8,000 new account holders during the same period.
- Nationwide: +54,000 new customers
- Co-op Bank: +9,175 new customers
- Monzo: +8,246 new customers
- HSBC: +8,219 new customers
Reasons for Success
The Fairer Share scheme has also contributed to Nationwide’s popularity. This initiative awarded over 4 million members with a £100 loyalty payment, further enhancing customer retention.
According to Alastair Douglas, the CEO of TotallyMoney, Nationwide’s current account figures reflect their dominance in the bank-switching market. They remain ahead due to simple and attractive incentives.
Challenges for Other Banks
While Nationwide flourishes, some banks face declines. Santander lost a net of 23,000 customers, while Barclays and Halifax reported losses of 18,000 and 15,000 respectively. These trends highlight the impact of cash bonuses on customer behavior.
Current Account Switch Service
The Current Account Switch Service has facilitated over 12 million switches, with 99.5% completed within just seven working days. This service seamlessly transfers all incoming and outgoing payments, including direct debits and salaries.
As the banking landscape evolves, consumers are encouraged to explore available switching deals. With various banks offering significant cash payments for account openings, now is an ideal time to consider your banking options.
