Herro, Jakucionis Travel with Heat; Powell Plans Quick Return

The Miami Heat is gearing up for a four-game West Coast trip, despite some key injuries. Guards Tyler Herro and Kaspars Jakucionis are unavailable for the opening matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. However, both players have traveled with the team, which Heat coach Erik Spoelstra considers beneficial.

Players’ Status and Plans

Tyler Herro recently underwent surgery on his left ankle and is not expected to make his season debut during this trip. His recovery timeline suggests he may return by mid-November. Meanwhile, Jakucionis is dealing with a right groin strain; he remains day-to-day and has yet to make his NBA debut after being drafted 20th overall in June.

  • Tyler Herro: Out due to left ankle surgery (surgery date: September 19).
  • Kaspars Jakucionis: Out with a right groin strain; played only one preseason game.
  • Terry Rozier: The only Heat player not traveling with the team, currently away due to legal matters.

Norman Powell’s Situation

The Heat will also be without guard Norman Powell, who is sidelined for a second consecutive game due to a right groin strain. Powell traveled with the team and expressed optimism about returning soon.

After participating in the first three games of the season, Powell leads the team with an average of 24 points per game. He is taking a cautious approach to his recovery and aims for a quick return. “I don’t want to put any pressure on anybody,” he stated. “But I plan on being back soon.”

Supporting Jamaica Amidst Hurricane Melissa

While in San Antonio, Powell also shared concerns for the people of Jamaica following Hurricane Melissa’s landfall as a Category 5 storm. He has ties to Jamaica through his father and previously played for the national team. Powell has expressed his commitment to assisting relief efforts via his foundation, Understand The Grind.

  • Hurricane Melissa: Affected many, prompting Powell’s support efforts.
  • Foundation: Understand The Grind Foundation focused on providing aid.

As the Miami Heat navigates the challenges of injuries and supports their teammates, they remain focused on competing during their upcoming games against the Lakers, Clippers, and Nuggets.
