Charlize Theron Eyes Amazon’s Culinary Thriller ‘Tyrant’

Charlize Theron is set to star in Amazon’s upcoming culinary thriller, “Tyrant.” Negotiations are in the final stages for her to not only star in but also produce the film.

“Tyrant” is being directed by David Weil, who also penned the screenplay. The project is produced by The Picture Company’s Alex Heineman and Andrew Rona, alongside Theron’s Secret Menu team, including Beth Kono and A.J. Dix.
Amazon and The Picture Company secured the highly sought-after screenplay in August following a competitive bidding war. The project moved quickly once Theron expressed her interest.
Leading Roles
While Theron’s involvement is confirmed, reports indicate a second prominent female role is also being cast, promising powerful performances in the film.
Plot Overview
- The storyline is set in New York City’s high-end culinary scene.
- It exhibits thematic elements reminiscent of “Wall Street” and “Whiplash.”
- The narrative is based on a concept developed by Weil and Cody Behan.
Upcoming Projects
David Weil is currently engaged in several other projects, including adaptations and original works. Notably, he has sold “Supermax” to Miramax, which is set to be directed by David Gordon Green. He is also adapting a film about Evan Gershkovich for United Artists.
In addition to “Tyrant,” Theron’s production company, Secret Menu, has various projects lined up, such as:
