Wizz Air is set to launch a trial for a new premium seating option called “Wizz Class.” This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience for passengers looking for added comfort on budget flights. Starting in December, the trial will operate on select routes from major cities, including London, Rome, Warsaw, Bucharest, and Budapest.
Wizz Class Features
The “Wizz Class” offering will present a range of features designed to provide a superior experience. These include:
- Ability to block off the middle seat for increased space.
- Priority boarding to expedite the boarding process.
- A carry-on bag allowance and overhead bin space.
According to Michael Delehant, an airline executive, the ticket cost will not exceed that of purchasing an additional seat. The intention is not to exploit passengers but to accommodate their needs for more room.
Background and Demand
Silvia Mosquera, Wizz Air’s commercial officer, stated that this trial was introduced in response to passenger demand for greater comfort and quicker disembarkation. Many business travelers opt for low-cost airlines and seek additional space during flights.
Currently, Wizz Air does not offer a wide range of seating types. Passengers seeking more space must purchase an extra seat for items like musical instruments or child car seats. While “Wizz Plus” and “Privilege Pass” customers can select their seats without extra fees, “Wizz Class” will merge existing options for enhanced comfort.
Trends in the Aviation Industry
The move toward premium seating is not unique to Wizz Air. Several budget airlines are adapting to market trends favoring upmarket experiences. For instance, Southwest Airlines is transitioning to assigned seating in 2026, aiming to introduce premium options. JetBlue has established a hybrid model with its “EvenMore” premium program, featuring early boarding and complimentary drinks.
Other European budget airlines, like Ryanair and easyJet, also permit passengers to book extra seats or select specific seats for added legroom.
