PVV and D66 Tied with 26 Seats, Vote Margin Minimal

The recent election developments have placed the Party for Freedom (PVV) and Democrats 66 (D66) in a tie, each securing 26 seats in the latest provisional results. D66 has dropped one seat, while the PVV has gained one, compared to the previous night’s exit poll. With nearly all votes counted, D66 maintains a narrow lead of approximately 1,700 votes over the PVV.
Election Highlights
The interim results, based on actual voting outcomes, reveal several shifts among political parties. The People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD) has garnered 22 seats, down from what was projected in the exit poll. The Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA) has also lost ground, finishing with 18 seats. Meanwhile, the Forum for Democracy (FVD) and Christian Union (CU) have made modest gains, earning 7 and 3 seats, respectively.

Geographical Trends
D66 has shown strong performance in major cities such as Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Tilburg, and Groningen. They also gained votes in Amsterdam, though the Green Left-PDV remains the leading party there. In many municipalities in Limburg, PVV was still the top party, despite a noticeable decline compared to the last elections. For instance, in Venlo, the birthplace of party leader Geert Wilders, the PVV received 27.3% of the votes, which represents a 9% drop from two years ago.
Voter Turnout
This election cycle saw a higher voter turnout rate of 78.4%, surpassing last year’s 77.8%. Notably, both D66 and CDA fared better in every municipality compared to the previous election, while the PVV along with Green Left-PDV experienced diminished results.
