Putin Confirms North Korea Strategy Proceeding as Planned

Russian President Vladimir Putin reaffirmed the commitment to North Korea during a recent meeting with Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui. The meeting took place in Moscow on October 27, 2025, indicating ongoing strategic ties between Russia and North Korea.
Strategic Partnership Between Russia and North Korea
During the discussions, Putin instructed Choe to relay to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un that the partnership was progressing as intended. This confirmation comes after a significant agreement was made last year, which included a mutual defense pact between the two nations.
Military Cooperation
Reports detail that North Korea has contributed substantial military support to Russia amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Specifically, the North has dispatched:
- Over 10,000 troops
- Artillery ammunition
- Missiles
In exchange, Russia is believed to provide economic and military technology assistance, enhancing North Korea’s capabilities in various areas.
Escalating Tensions in Northeast Asia
Choe also convened with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to discuss regional dynamics. Both officials noted that the rising tensions in Northeast Asia are attributed to actions by the United States and its allies.
South Korea’s intelligence has reported significant casualties, estimating that around 2,000 North Korean soldiers have died in the fighting in Ukraine.
This meeting underscores the strengthened alliance between Russia and North Korea, with both nations seemingly poised to continue their cooperation amidst complex geopolitical challenges. Putin’s remarks about the progression of their strategy reflect a deepening of bilateral relations.
