Pacers Sign Dunk Champion McClung, Release Wiseman

The Indiana Pacers have made a significant move by signing guard Mac McClung to a multiyear contract. This marks McClung’s first standard NBA contract, following his impressive victory as a three-time dunk contest champion. He has been with the league since 2021, mostly on camp and two-way deals.

Roster Changes for the Pacers

To accommodate McClung, the Pacers will release former second overall pick James Wiseman. This decision comes as the team faces several key injuries among their guards and wings.

McClung’s Career Overview

Prior to joining the Pacers, McClung had spent time with the Orlando Magic, making a total of six appearances in the NBA. His unique skill set and dunking ability garnered attention throughout the league.

Injury Concerns

  • Andrew Nembhard: Day-to-day injury status
  • Bennedict Mathurin: Day-to-day injury status
  • Obi Toppin: Day-to-day injury status
  • TJ McConnell: Recovering from a hamstring injury
  • Tyrese Haliburton: Out for the year due to an Achilles tear

Wiseman, 24, recently made a return from an Achilles injury that sidelined him at the start of the previous season. He played 20 minutes in last week’s match against the Memphis Grizzlies.

Looking Ahead

The Pacers are actively seeking to bolster their roster as they navigate a difficult season marked by injuries. McClung’s addition could provide much-needed depth and dynamism to the team.
