King of Jordan: International Troops Reluctant to Enforce Gaza Peace

The situation in Gaza continues to be a focal point of intense international discussions. Recently, Jordan’s King has expressed concerns over the reluctance of international troops to enforce peace in the region. The ongoing conflict has led to devastating consequences for civilians in Gaza.
Escalating Casualties and International Response
Israel has attributed the prolonging of the conflict to Hamas’s refusal to return Israeli hostages. The Hamas-run health ministry has reported staggering civilian casualties, estimating over 68,000 deaths since Israel’s invasion of Gaza. This military action began following a significant attack by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in more than 1,200 fatalities, primarily among Israeli civilians.
War Crimes Allegations and Hostage Situations
In response to the conflict, the International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for key figures, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. Accusations include war crimes related to the ongoing military operations in Gaza. Additionally, the military leader of Hamas, Mohammed Deif, was confirmed dead following an airstrike.
Ceasefire Efforts and Hostage Releases
The Trump administration facilitated a ceasefire agreement leading to the release of 20 hostages held by Hamas. In a reciprocal gesture, Israel freed 250 Palestinian prisoners, some convicted of serious crimes against Israelis, and around 1,700 detainees from Gaza who had been held without charges.
The Role of International Community
Queen Rania of Jordan emphasized the crucial role the international community plays in achieving lasting peace. She stated that while hope may seem elusive, nurtured by defiance, it is essential for the prospects of coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis. She noted the overwhelming feelings of animosity and grief currently prevailing in both societies.
Hope Amidst Adversity
Queen Rania articulated her belief that with global support, there remains a possibility for peace, despite the deep-rooted divisions. She highlighted the significance of maintaining hope without undermining the Palestinian struggle, asserting, “It’s the only path that doesn’t deny Palestinians or betray their struggle or our humanity.”
- October 7: Attack by Hamas resulting in over 1,200 Israeli civilian deaths.
- 68,000 estimated casualties in Gaza since the Israeli invasion.
- International Criminal Court warrants issued against key Israeli and Hamas leaders.
- Release of 20 Israeli hostages and 250 Palestinian prisoners as part of ceasefire negotiations.
The ongoing dialogue about peace in the region calls for renewed efforts and engagement from the international community to ensure stability and address the humanitarian crises affecting civilians in both Gaza and Israel.
