Reaves Scores Career-High 51 Points for Short-Handed Lakers

Austin Reaves delivered an extraordinary performance, scoring a career-high 51 points in a thrilling game where the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Sacramento Kings 127-120. This remarkable achievement included four crucial free throws in the final moments of the match.
Reaves’ Standout Performance
Reaves showcased his skill by making 12 of 22 shots, including six three-pointers, marking the 500th of his career. In addition to his scoring, he contributed nine assists and grabbed 11 rebounds.
Historic Milestone
With this impressive stat line, Reaves became only the fourth player in the last four decades to record at least 50 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists in a single game. This elite group includes notable players such as:
- Luka Doncic
- Russell Westbrook (twice)
- James Harden (twice)
The last Lakers player to achieve a similar feat was Elgin Baylor on February 13, 1963, when he registered 50 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists against the Boston Celtics.
Lakers’ Team Performance
Deandre Ayton supported Reaves with 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Rui Hachimura added 18 points to the Lakers’ total. Despite being without key players, the Lakers started strong, leading by 10 points at the end of the first quarter.
In the first quarter, Hachimura impressed with 10 points within just nine minutes. The Lakers closed the quarter at 31-21, demonstrating solid team play and resilience.
Kings’ Efforts
Although the Kings fought back, they struggled to hold their momentum in critical moments. Zach LaVine led Sacramento with 32 points, while DeMar DeRozan contributed 21 points. Domantas Sabonis offered a strong effort with 10 points and 14 rebounds, alongside Dennis Schroder, who had 18 points and 12 assists.
The Kings managed to tie the game at halftime, aided by an impressive three-point shooting effort in the second quarter.
Injury Updates
Prior to the game, Luka Doncic was ruled out due to a sprained finger and a bruised lower leg. He is expected to be reevaluated in approximately a week. This absence added to the Lakers’ challenges as LeBron James is also sidelined with sciatica and is not expected back until mid-November.
Despite these setbacks, Reaves’ outstanding performance ensured a significant victory for the Lakers, highlighting his potential as a key player in the season ahead.
