The Minooka Police Department recently made headlines with the arrest of attorney Chuck Bretz, a well-known criminal defense lawyer from Joliet, Illinois. This incident occurred during the annual Minooka Halloween parade, adding a curious backdrop to a serious event.

Details of the Arrest of Chuck Bretz

On Saturday, the police received reports of Bretz allegedly using a belt to strike a 4-year-old family member. This event took place in the 100 block of West Mondamin, near Wabena Street, according to Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer.

After witnesses alerted authorities, police began investigating the incident and collected video surveillance from the area. Although Bretz was not located immediately, he was tracked down by mid-afternoon and subsequently arrested on charges of domestic battery.

Legal Proceedings and Previous Incidents

  • Bretz was taken to the Grundy County Jail in Morris, but was not booked there.
  • Minooka police transported him back to their department for processing.
  • He was released on a criminal citation.

According to Chief Meyer, Bretz is expected to appear in court at the Grundy County Courthouse on Monday for his domestic battery charges. Thankfully, the child involved was reported to be unharmed in this incident.

This is not the first time Bretz has faced legal troubles. He was previously arrested by the Lockport Police in February 2020 for DUI and obstructing a police officer. During a bench trial, Bretz was found not guilty of DUI, but guilty of speeding. The judge carefully reviewed evidence, including video footage of the arrest and testimonies from law enforcement.

Chuck Bretz is recognized for representing individuals in serious criminal cases, including first-degree murder, making this latest arrest particularly notable within the legal community.

As events unfold, the Minooka Police Department continues to manage the investigation while the local community watches closely.
