In May 2025, Lambert was appointed the head coach of the Seattle Kraken. This marked a new chapter for the franchise, as he became the team’s third coach in five seasons. So far, the Kraken are off to an impressive start in the 2025-26 season, boasting a record of 3-0-2 in their initial five games.

Despite some recent setbacks, including two consecutive losses to the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals, Lambert remains optimistic. He emphasized the importance of competing and maintaining a strong work ethic. “We’ve paid pretty close attention to our details and our structure,” he stated, highlighting a commitment to defensive play.
- Record: 3 wins, 0 losses, 2 overtime losses
- Recent losses: Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals
The Kraken will face the Winnipeg Jets to conclude their challenging road trip. After this, they will return home to compete against the Edmonton Oilers.
Coaching Experience
Before joining the Kraken, Lambert served as an associate coach under Craig Berube with the Toronto Maple Leafs. His experience there helped the team advance to the second round of the playoffs before falling to the Florida Panthers. Lambert possesses a wealth of experience, having played 300 NHL games in the 1980s and winning the Stanley Cup as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals in 2018.
The Kraken players have responded positively to Lambert’s coaching style. Defenceman Vince Dunn praised his intensity during video sessions, noting that he brings energy, regardless of whether the feedback is positive or negative. Lambert’s approach fosters a strong connection with the team.
Kraken captain Jordan Eberle appreciates Lambert’s directness and consistency. “His message is really non-negotiable,” Eberle said, emphasizing how clearer communication enhances the team’s performance.
Goals Ahead
Looking forward, Lambert remains focused on continual improvement. “There’s always improvements to be made,” he said. With a mix of young talent and veteran leadership, the Kraken aim to make significant strides in the Pacific Division this season.
Additionally, the NHL is witnessing promising developments with players across various teams. For instance, NHL rookie Matthew Schaefer, who was the first overall pick in the 2025 draft, is making headlines with two goals and five assists in his initial six games.
As the season unfolds, Lane Lambert’s journey with the Kraken is just beginning. His ability to adapt and learn from past experiences will play a critical role in shaping the franchise’s future.
