NBA Award Winners Debut Special Jersey Patches This Season Opener

The NBA has introduced special jersey patches for the 2024-25 season, celebrating notable achievements from the previous season. This season opener will feature gold logo patches on the jerseys of the Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year.

In total, 35 players will don these special patches during their opening games. Key players such as Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (MVP), Evan Mobley (Defensive Player of the Year), and Stephon Castle (Rookie of the Year) will have their respective trophy icons displayed prominently on their jerseys.

Details of the Award Patches

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – Oklahoma City Thunder, MVP patch

  • Stephon Castle – San Antonio Spurs, Rookie of the Year patch
  • Jalen Brunson – New York Knicks, Clutch Player of the Year patch

All-NBA and All-Defensive Teams Recognition

In addition to individual award recipients, members of the All-NBA and All-Defensive teams will also sport specific patches. This initiative highlights the versatility and talent across the league.

Coaches and Staff Participation

The program extends beyond players. Coaches, including Cavaliers’ Kenny Atkinson (NBA Coach of the Year) and Thunder’s Sam Presti (Executive of the Year), will wear lapels to celebrate their achievements, adding to the festive atmosphere of the season opener.

Continuing the Tradition

These patches will only be worn during the season debut. Each player’s game-worn uniform will be auctioned through Sotheby’s, further commemorating this special occasion. The initiative aims to highlight players’ accomplishments and give them a moment of recognition on the court.

While some fans appreciate this new addition, others express concern over potential clutter on jerseys. Nevertheless, the NBA looks forward to these moments during the games.
