Central Commune Launches Terrace Reordering Initiative

The Central Commune of Pucón is taking significant steps to enhance the organization of terraces in the city center. This effort is led by the Department of Revenues and Licenses. Their aim is to preserve the appeal of Pucón as a tourist destination.

Terrace Reordering Initiative Announcement

In line with a newly adopted ordinance, which has been discussed with local residents and supported by city council members, the initiative focuses on regulating the space, distance, and design of terraces. This initiative seeks to ensure that public spaces remain inviting for both tourists and residents.

Engaging Local Businesses

Jarol Fuchslocher, the coordinator of Revenues and Licenses, detailed the ongoing collaboration with restaurants. “We’re engaging in dialogues with vendors and each taxpayer to encourage compliance,” he explained. The goal here is to create a cohesive design template that aligns with the new regulations.

Mayor’s Support for the Initiative

Mayor Sebastián Álvarez also emphasized the importance of maintaining an orderly city. He stated, “Pucón is a tourist city that needs to be organized, ensuring comfort for both visitors and our residents who frequent the commercial center.”

Regulations Stipulated in the Ordinance

  • Defines the allowed area for terrace constructions.
  • Specifies distances from pedestrian sidewalks.
  • Promotes a friendly environment for tourists.

Fuchslocher noted that recent discussions with restaurant owners have aimed at creating a welcoming atmosphere while adhering to the guidelines outlined in the ordinance.

Voluntary Compliance and Adjustments

As a result of this initiative, some previously non-compliant terraces have been dismantled. Fuchslocher highlighted that many contributors are voluntarily removing their terraces to comply with the new standards. “This sets a precedent for others and future contributors,” he stated.

Cost of Public Space Utilization

The municipal ordinance also outlines the costs associated with occupying public space for terraces. The fee is set at 0.45 UTM per square meter, which will vary based on the size of each terrace.

These steps taken by Pucón’s municipality underscore the commitment to enhancing the city’s tourism infrastructure while ensuring compliance and cooperation among local businesses.
