Former Phillie Secures World Series Ring

Former Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Buddy Kennedy has achieved a significant milestone by securing a World Series championship. This accomplishment comes as two of the three Major League teams he played for in 2023, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers, compete in the 2025 World Series.

Buddy Kennedy’s Journey

Kennedy is notably one of only two players, alongside pitcher José Ureña, to have played for both pennant-winning teams this season. His World Series ring is guaranteed, irrespective of the series’ outcome.

Season Highlights

  • Kennedy participated in two Major League games with the Blue Jays.
  • He also played seven games with the Dodgers.

Originally from Millville, New Jersey, Kennedy faced a competitive spring training this year. He was vying for a spot on the Phillies’ 26-man roster but ultimately lost out to Kody Clemens. Following this, Kennedy was outrighted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and subsequently released, only to be re-signed to a minor league contract.

In June, the Phillies called him up to the major league roster after he activated his upward mobility clause. His tenure with the Phillies was brief, as he was designated for assignment on June 30. Following his release, Kennedy signed with the Blue Jays on July 9, made it back to the roster on August 5, but was designated for assignment again just a week later.

Kennedy’s career took another turn when the Dodgers claimed him off waivers. He appeared in seven games in Los Angeles, but was DFA’d again ten days afterward. In early September, he returned to the Blue Jays on a minor league contract, wrapping up his season in Triple-A Buffalo.

Acknowledgments and Achievements

In addition to his World Series ring, Kennedy also received a 2023 National League pennant ring, further marking his notable achievements in the league this year.
