A participant in the January 6 Capitol riot has been accused of threatening House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries. Christopher Moynihan, 34, allegedly sent disturbing messages regarding an upcoming event featuring Jeffries, according to a felony complaint filed in New York.

On Friday, Moynihan sent text messages stating, “Hakeem Jeffries makes a speech in a few days in NYC. I cannot allow this terrorist to live… Even if I am hated he must be eliminated… I will kill him for the future.” The unnamed recipient of these texts reportedly felt imminent fear for Jeffries’ safety.

Moynihan was among the individuals charged in the January 6 insurrection when supporters of then-President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol. He was later sentenced to 21 months in prison on charges including obstruction of an official proceeding and was fully pardoned by Trump on January 20, 2025, for his involvement in the Capitol riots.
