Adam Driver Reveals Disney Rejected Ben Solo ‘Star Wars’ Sequel Idea

Adam Driver, known for portraying Ben Solo in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, recently revealed his desire to continue his character’s story. He had pitched a direct sequel to the 2019 film, The Rise of Skywalker, to Lucasfilm and Disney.
Unfinished Business with Ben Solo
Driver expressed that he felt Ben Solo had unresolved storylines. In an interview with the Associated Press, he mentioned, “I always was interested in doing another Star Wars.” This passion for the character has been evident since he began conversations about a sequel in 2021.
The Concept and Script
Driver collaborated with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, who wrote what Driver described as an impressive script. The film was tentatively titled The Hunt for Ben Solo. According to Driver, both Lucasfilm and Disney initially embraced the idea.
Rejected by Disney Executives
During the pitch, executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman ultimately rejected the concept. They could not envision how Ben Solo could still be alive following the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Driver commented, “But it is no more, so I can finally talk about it.”
Statements from Soderbergh
Soderbergh expressed disappointment in his statement to the Associated Press, saying, “I really enjoyed making the movie in my head. I’m just sorry the fans won’t get to see it.”
