Doug Martin, Former Raider, Dies in Oakland Police Custody

Doug Martin, a former All-Pro running back, tragically passed away on Saturday after being detained by Oakland police. The incident occurred during an alleged break-in at a residence in the Chabot Park neighborhood.

Incident Overview

The Oakland Police Department received a report of a break-in at approximately 4:15 a.m. They arrived at the 11000 block of Ettrick Street to find Martin inside the home. At the same time, officers were informed that he was “experiencing a medical emergency.”

According to authorities, a brief struggle ensued during Martin’s detention. After being taken into custody, he became unresponsive and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. He was 36 years old.

Martin’s family released a statement through Fox Sports, indicating that the cause of death has not yet been confirmed.

Doug Martin’s Career

Born in Oakland, Doug Martin enjoyed a successful NFL career, mainly with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played for six of his seven seasons from 2012 to 2017. He concluded his career with the Oakland Raiders in 2018.

In 2015, he achieved a career-high performance, earning a first-team All-Pro designation after recording 1,402 rushing yards and six touchdowns.
