Colorado State to Dismiss Norvell in Fourth Season: Sources

Colorado State University (CSU) is set to part ways with head football coach Jay Norvell. This decision comes as Norvell enters his fourth season with the Rams. Reports confirm that the announcement was made during a staff meeting on October 19, 2025.
Norvell’s Tenure at Colorado State
Norvell’s tenure has been challenging, highlighted by a disappointing record of 18 wins and 26 losses. The Rams currently hold a 2-5 record this season after a loss to Hawai’i. Notably, Colorado State has experienced only one winning season since 2017, achieving an 8-5 record last year, which led the team to the Arizona Bowl.
Coaching Background
Before joining CSU, Norvell had a successful stint at the University of Nevada, finishing with a record of 33-26. He also guided the team to four consecutive bowl appearances. Known for his extensive experience, Norvell has held assistant coaching roles at several Power 5 programs, including:
- Oklahoma
- Texas
- Nebraska
- Arizona State
Future Directions for Colorado State
John Weber, the athletic director and a CSU alumnus, will now face the task of selecting a new head coach. He was appointed to his role in May 2024 and will be making his first significant coaching hire. The potential for revitalizing the football program is crucial as the Rams aim to rebuild and return to competitive status.
