Stanford has made a striking start at the Stanford Intercollegiate, a competition fiercely contested among collegiate golf teams. The event, hosted by Dr. Condoleezza Rice, opened with No. 3 Stanford women’s golf team showcasing exceptional performance on their home course.
Stanford’s Record-breaking Performance
The Stanford team’s score of 13-under par not only led the field but also set a new record at the Stanford Golf Course. This outstanding performance placed them five strokes ahead of their closest competitor. Notably, this achievement marks the fourth time in the past year that the team has shot a score of 13-under or better.
Leading Players of the Day
- Paula Martín Sampedro: She recorded the best round for Stanford with a 5-under 66. This score ties her collegiate best and includes just one bogey. Martín Sampedro finished strong, making birdies on holes seven and nine.
- Meja Örtengren: Following close behind, she shot a 4-under 67. Örtengren’s only bogey came on hole 14, but she secured her place by birdying her last three holes.
