Airport Responds to ICE Barbie’s MAGA Message with Bold Yellow Warning

Airport executives in Detroit have taken a stand against a controversial video from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. This video, which plays at some Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints, has been criticized for its partisan message regarding the government shutdown.

Detroit Airport’s Response to Partisan Messaging

In response to Noem’s 37-second message, the Detroit Airport displayed yellow signboards at key locations. These boards clearly state, “ATTENTION: The views expressed in this TSA controlled video do not represent the views of the Wayne County Airport Authority. The Wayne County Airport Authority does not engage in partisan politics. Thank You.”

The airport emphasizes that it does not control the checkpoint monitors where the video is shown. In a statement, the Wayne County Airport Authority (WCAA) requested TSA to discontinue the video, stating, “The TSA did not seek approval to play the message.”

The Controversial Message from Kristi Noem

Known as “ICE Barbie” for her high-profile stance on immigration, Noem’s video blames Democrats for the government shutdown, asserting it has negatively affected TSA operations and employee pay. Critics argue that the tone of the video is overtly partisan.

  • Over half a dozen airports nationwide have reportedly refused to air the video.
  • Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell previously faced backlash for blaming “the radical left” for government issues.

Democratic Senator Maria Cantwell from Washington has called for an investigation into Noem’s video, arguing that it may violate the 1939 Hatch Act. This act prohibits federal employees from participating in political activities while on duty.

Political Implications and Reactions

Critics of Noem’s message include various political leaders, who have condemned its partisan nature. The backlash includes:

  • Accusations of presenting false information about TSA operations.
  • Concerns over the legality of airing such a video in public transportation venues.

The implications of this incident could extend beyond the airport, sparking a broader discussion on the role of federal officials in political messaging.

As the situation develops, the Department of Homeland Security has not yet responded to inquiries for comments from various media outlets, including El-Balad.
