Bulls Secure Key Signing Ahead of Season Opener

The Chicago Bulls have secured a significant signing ahead of the NBA season opener, adding former three-time Slam Dunk Contest champion Mac McClung to their roster. McClung, who was named the 2024 G League MVP, has inked a new contract, although the specifics of the deal remain undisclosed. He is expected to begin the season with the Bulls’ G League affiliate, the Windy City Bulls, based in Hoffman Estates.

Bulls Roster and Contract Details

Currently, all 15 standard roster spots for the Chicago Bulls are filled. Additionally, the team has occupied all three two-way slots. McClung is likely to join Chicago on a training camp contract and may compete for one of those two-way positions.

  • McClung may start the season on an affiliate contract.
  • If his deal is an Exhibit 10 contract, he could earn a signing bonus of up to $85,300.
  • This bonus is contingent upon him remaining in Windy City for at least 60 days.

McClung’s Background and Performance

Mac McClung has gained popularity for his explosive performances in the Slam Dunk Contest but has struggled to maintain a consistent role in the NBA. Previously, he had a brief stint with the Bulls, where he signed two 10-day contracts during the 2021-22 season, appearing in just one game.

Throughout his NBA career, McClung has played in six games, averaging 5.5 points with shooting splits of .429 from the field, .333 from three-point range, and .667 from the free-throw line. He also averages 2.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists in just over 12 minutes per game.

G League Success

In the G League, McClung has established himself as a standout player. While playing for the Osceola Magic, he averaged 25.77 points over 30 games with impressive shooting percentages of .512 overall, .378 from beyond the arc, and .827 from the free-throw line. He complemented his scoring with 5.7 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and nearly one steal per game.

Historical Significance

Notably, Mac McClung is only the second player in history to win the Slam Dunk Contest three times, following former Bulls point guard Nate Robinson. Robinson achieved significant success during his time in Chicago, especially in the 2012-13 season.

This signing signals a new chapter for the Bulls as they prepare for the upcoming season, with fans hopeful for the contributions McClung can bring to the team.
