Manchester Arena Bombmaker Denies Trying to Kill Prison Officers

Hashem Abedi, notorious for his role in the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, has entered a plea of not guilty. He faces charges related to an alleged attack on prison officers while serving a life sentence.
Charges Against Hashem Abedi
The 28-year-old Abedi has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges at the Old Bailey in London. These include:
- Three counts of attempted murder
- One count of assault causing actual bodily harm
- Possession of offensive weapons in prison
Prosecutors assert that Abedi’s actions were driven by “terrorist” motivations. He is currently imprisoned at HMP Belmarsh.
Details of the Alleged Attack
The incident reportedly took place on April 12 at HMP Frankland in County Durham. During the alleged assault, Abedi shouted “Allahu akbar,” which translates to “God is greatest.”
It is claimed that he attacked four prison officers, using multiple makeshift knives. Additionally, he allegedly threw boiling liquid at the officers.
Injuries Reported
As a result of the assault, three officers—two men and one woman—required hospitalization. Two suffered from stab wounds.
Upcoming Trial and Legal Proceedings
Abedi’s trial is scheduled to commence on January 18, 2027. He appeared via video link from prison, attire included a grey tracksuit. Accompanied by five officers in riot gear, he confirmed his identity and stated that he did not wish to have legal representation.
He expressed an unwillingness to attend court proceedings, stating, “I don’t wanna attend anyway that’s what it is.”
Next Court Appearance
Hashem Abedi has been remanded in custody and is set to appear at the Old Bailey again on January 30, 2026.
