Hangzhou Prepares for Upcoming Third Liangzhu Forum

The third Liangzhu Forum is poised to begin in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, on Saturday. This year’s theme is “Revitalization of Civilization: Cultural Heritage and Human Cultural Diversity.” Organizers anticipate around 400 participants, including experts in archaeology, museology, and cultural heritage from various countries.

Event Overview

The forum will feature a main gathering, four sub-forums, and six supporting activities. Key figures from China’s culture and tourism sectors, alongside representatives from UNESCO and the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), will attend the opening ceremony and main forum.

Significant Participation

  • This is the first time leaders from UNESCO and UNWTO will be present at the forum.
  • The forums will cover topics including the modern significance of ancient civilizations and innovative museum practices.

Sub-Forums and Supporting Activities

The four sub-forums will focus on critical issues such as:

  • The relevance of ancient civilizations today.
  • Archaeological site conservation.
  • Innovations in museums.
  • Preservation techniques for cultural heritage.

Additionally, there will be several supporting events, including:

  • A symposium on the book project “A Comprehensive Collection of Ancient Chinese Paintings.”
  • A cultural creative market.
  • A concert featuring the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra.
  • The China (Hangzhou) International Biennale of Art and Technology.
  • An exhibition of Chinese and Arabic calligraphy.

Award Ceremony Highlights

The UNWTO will conduct an award ceremony on the eve of the forum in Anji County, Huzhou. This event will recognize the Best Tourism Villages for 2025, aimed at locations that enhance tourism to preserve landscapes and cultural diversity. Notably, China has 15 recognized villages, with three from Zhejiang: Yucun in Anji, Xiajiang in Chun’an, and Xitou in Longquan.

Organizers

The third Liangzhu Forum is organized by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and the Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government. The event signifies a pivotal step in promoting cultural dialogue and heritage preservation on a global scale.
