Former 1st Round WR Visits Washington Commanders for Roster Evaluation

The Washington Commanders are preparing to host a visit from former first-round wide receiver Treylon Burks. Burks, selected 18th overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Arkansas, is seeking a new opportunity after being released last week.
Treylon Burks: Injury History and Performance
Burks, who stands at 6 feet 2 inches and weighs 225 pounds, has faced challenges during his brief career in the NFL, particularly with injuries. Throughout his four seasons, he has been plagued by multiple injuries, including a fractured collarbone that placed him on injured reserve during training camp. In 2023, he had a limited impact, appearing in 11 games and recording 16 receptions for 221 yards.
Current Status of the Washington Commanders
The Commanders are dealing with significant injury issues at the wide receiver position this season. Key players such as Terry McLaurin and Noah Brown are currently sidelined. McLaurin has missed three consecutive games due to a quad injury, while Brown has been unable to take the field for his fourth game because of a groin issue.
- Deebo Samuel is also struggling with a heel injury, limiting his practice participation for the past two weeks.
- Due to these setbacks, Washington has been elevating receivers from the practice squad regularly.
Roster Moves and Future Decisions
The Commanders are expected to make additional roster adjustments soon. Defensive end Drake Jackson is anticipated to join the active roster, and guard Sam Cosmi may be activated from the Reserve/PUP list shortly.
If the Commanders decide to sign Burks, it would probably be for their practice squad. Recently, the team released guard Tyler Cooper from the practice squad while considering a re-signing of guard Julian Good-Jones.
As the Commanders continue to navigate their injury challenges, Burks’ visit marks a potential step toward enhancing their offensive lineup as they seek a competitive edge going forward.
