Anthropic Unveils Enhanced Version of ‘Haiku’ Model

Anthropic has unveiled Claude Haiku 4.5, its latest small-scale AI model. This new version aims to deliver performance comparable to Sonnet 4, but at a lower cost and increased speed. According to a company blog post, Haiku 4.5 operates at one-third the price and more than double the speed of its bigger counterpart, Sonnet 4.5.
Performance Benchmarks for Haiku 4.5
The company backs its performance claims with new benchmark results. In tests, Haiku 4.5 achieved a score of 73% on the SWE-Bench. It also scored 41% on the Terminal-Bench, which focuses on command-line tasks. While these results may trail behind Sonnet 4.5, Haiku 4.5 competes effectively with Sonnet 4, GPT-5, and Gemini 2.5.
- Haiku 4.5 Score on SWE-Bench: 73%
- Haiku 4.5 Score on Terminal-Bench: 41%
- Performance compared to Sonnet 4, GPT-5, and Gemini 2.5: on par in several categories
Key Features and Capabilities
The lightweight design of Claude Haiku 4.5 makes it suitable for a variety of applications, especially in AI products’ free versions. It allows for minimal server loads while delivering significant capabilities. Furthermore, the model supports the simultaneous deployment of multiple Haiku agents alongside more sophisticated models.
Mike Krieger, Chief Product Officer at Anthropic, remarked on the model’s potential for new deployment styles in production. He emphasizes that Haiku 4.5 will facilitate diverse AI applications by combining intelligence, speed, and cost effectively.
Applications in Software Development
The initial focus for Haiku 4.5’s capabilities is anticipated to be in software development tools. Claude Code, already utilized in various applications, depends heavily on latency performance. Andrew Filev, CEO of Zencoder, noted that Haiku 4.5 opens doors to new use cases in the tech industry.
Recent Launches by Anthropic
Haiku 4.5 arrives shortly after the launch of Sonnet 4.5, which took place just two weeks prior. Additionally, it follows the release of Opus 4.1, celebrated as cutting-edge technology at its introduction. Notably, the previous iteration of Haiku was launched in October 2024.
This series of high-profile releases indicates Anthropic’s commitment to advancing AI models and capabilities. Through innovations like Haiku 4.5, the company continues to redefine possibilities in production environments.
