Police Investigate Possible Murder-Suicide of Newlyweds Days Before Anniversary

A tragic incident has shocked the community of Harvard, Illinois, as newlyweds Rachel and Brandon Dumovich were found dead in their car just days before their first wedding anniversary. Authorities are currently exploring the possibility of a murder-suicide in this heartbreaking case.

The couple’s bodies were discovered on October 6 in a vehicle along Route 14 after an officer noticed its hazard lights flashing. Upon inspection, both Rachel, 29, and Brandon, 30, were found with single gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered from the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation by the Harvard Police Department.
Investigation Status
Police Chief Tyson Bauman has stated that while a murder-suicide is a plausible scenario, no conclusive determination has been made. The McHenry County Coroner’s Office is conducting autopsies and toxicology tests, with assistance from the McHenry County Major Investigation Assistance Team.
Officials assure the public that there is no immediate threat related to this case.

Rachel and Brandon Dumovich’s love story began during their middle school years. They reconnected as adults in 2022 and got engaged the following summer by Big Cedar Lake, a meaningful spot for Rachel. The couple then married on October 12, 2024.
