Mike Borgonzi Confident in Mike McCoy’s Leadership to Steer the Ship

The Tennessee Titans have appointed Mike McCoy as the interim head coach for the remainder of the season. This decision follows the firing of Brian Callahan earlier this week.

Mike McCoy’s Coaching Background

Mike McCoy, aged 53, has a notable coaching history. He served as the head coach for the San Diego Chargers from 2013 to 2016, where he recorded a regular-season record of 27 wins and 37 losses. During his tenure, McCoy led the team to the playoffs once, finishing with a 1-1 postseason record.

Most recently, McCoy was hired as a senior offensive assistant by the Titans in 2025. Before this, he worked as the quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2022 to 2024.

Support from Titans Management

Titans General Manager Mike Borgonzi expressed strong confidence in McCoy’s leadership abilities. In a press conference, he stated:

  • “What Mike brings right now is experience and leadership.”
  • “He has done it before, and I’ve had respect for Mike for a long time.”
  • “We have full confidence in Mike, that he is going to be able to steer the ship here.”

Chad Brinker, the Titans’ president of football operations, emphasized the team’s commitment to supporting McCoy. He stated that they will focus on giving McCoy every opportunity to succeed, starting immediately.

Upcoming Challenges

The Titans face a significant challenge in Week 7 as they prepare to play the New England Patriots. Led by coach Mike Vrabel, the Patriots are looking to maintain their lead in the AFC East. The game will take place at Nissan Stadium.
