Philadelphia ‘No Kings’ Protest: Key Facts You Need to Know

On the upcoming Philadelphia ‘No Kings’ protest, organized by Indivisible Philadelphia, significant plans are underway to accommodate participants. The demonstration will take place at Independence Mall, with a capacity for about 20,000 attendees.

Event Details

The protest is set to feature a speaker program located near the Liberty Bell Pavilion, beside Chestnut Street. To enhance visibility and audio, large video screens will be positioned throughout the area, ensuring that participants can engage with speakers even from a distance.

Attendance Expectations

Anticipated attendance for this event is lower than previous protests. The June protest attracted approximately 100,000 participants along Benjamin Franklin Parkway. However, this gathering is considered more localized, as Philadelphia is not hosting the flagship event during this round of protests.

Road Closures and Logistics

Key road closures are planned for the protest. Market Street between 5th and 6th streets will remain closed for the entire duration of the event. Additionally, temporary closures will occur on other parts of Market Street as marchers progress from City Hall to Independence Mall.

  • Market Street Closure: 5th to 6th streets closed throughout the protest.
  • Temporary closures along Market Street as attendees march.
  • Side streets leading to Market Street will be barricaded.

According to event coordinator Miller, the road closures will be determined dynamically. For example, certain streets, like 10th and Market, will not be closed until marchers approach the area.

SEPTA Impact

The impact of the protest on SEPTA services remains uncertain. A spokesperson mentioned that further details regarding transportation adjustments are currently unavailable.

As the protest date approaches, both participants and the public are advised to stay informed about potential changes and safety measures in Philadelphia during the event.
