Meet Anika Nilles: Rush’s New Drummer

The band revealed the details during an event at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland on October 5, 2023. Nilles will participate in all 12 tour stops, which includes two special shows in Toronto. These performances are scheduled for August 7 and August 9, 2026, at the Scotiabank Arena.

Anika Nilles: A Background

Originally from Germany, Nilles has made a mark in the music world. She gained significant recognition after touring with renowned guitarist Jeff Beck in 2022. Geddy Lee spoke highly of her, stating that she was “a terrific” addition to Beck’s band.

Lee’s admiration for Nilles stems from recommendations by his bass technician, Skully, who worked closely with Beck. Nilles’s impressive skills caught Lee’s attention, and he took the initiative to learn more about her. “She’s fairly well known in her own world of music,” Lee mentioned, referring to her prominent online presence.

Social Media Fame

Nilles has built a substantial following on YouTube, where she shares her drumming videos. With over 246,000 subscribers, her channel showcases her talent effectively. One of her original compositions, “Alter Ego,” has garnered over four million views, highlighting her creative abilities.

Career Transition

Before fully diving into her music career, Nilles worked as a preschool teacher after completing five years of social work studies. She enjoyed her teaching role but ultimately decided to pursue her passion for music. Nilles expressed that while teaching was fun, she felt unfulfilled and was determined to follow her true calling.

Anika Nilles is not just a talented performer; she is also a prolific musician. She has released four albums, showcasing her unique sound:

  • False Truth (2022)
  • Opuntia (2022)
  • For a Colorful Soul (2020)
